What a difference a year makes…

Last year’s Bedlam game created one of the lowest points in OU football history.  OU, a three touchdown favorite lost to OSU after leading by two touchdowns deep into the fourth quarter.  The loss occurred at home no less and after many Aggie fans had left the stadium, believing all was lost.

I remember the end of that game like it was yesterday as I stood in disbelief about what I had just seen…That was about as bad a feeling as I have ever had as a Sooner fan.  This year OU takes care of the Aggies, the alleged 11th ranked team in the country by five touchdowns and on the road no less…What gives…

What gives is that we need to give a big shout out to OSU.  If last year’s debacle does not happen the way it did, Bob Stoops is not forced to make needed staff changes and we are sitting out this year’s playoffs…Losing  to Texas or Ohio State or Baylor is one thing, but losing to OSU, particularly in the manner we did last year means heads will roll.

If given a truth serum, Bob Stoops might admit that he needed last year’s meltdown to occur to give him an excuse for dismantling his inbred staff.  I am confident that without those staff changes, OU would have lost to OSU for the 2nd year in a row.   Yes, this team is more talented and yes, we have Baker, but even Baker could not have overcome the Josh Heupel factor.

So there you have it…As we are giving thanks this holiday season, OU fans should thank OSU for making this National Championship run possible.

For the record, yes, I am an OU homer, but I am also an OU realist.  I like OU’s chances going forward…Running the gauntlet here at the end of the year with two of those wins coming on the road will prepare this team for whoever OU plays in the title race.

Having watched all the title contenders this past weekend, no team, including Alabama is hotter right now.  With Baker Mayfield as the team’s Commander in Chief, this team is special…

Wow…What a difference a year makes…
