Patience…

The good news is that the Louisville rallied to beat Wake Forest.   I don’t hold any ill feelings against the Demon Deacons or have any fond feelings for Bobby Patrino and Louisville, but I do have reasons for this to happen.

I do not want OU backing into the college football National Championship series this year. I know that as an OU homer this may appear to be sacrilege, but most importantly I am a realist who does not want the Sooners to be embarrassed again by getting in over our heads by playing an Alabama or Ohio State this year.

The OU name can do this and when it happens it is not pretty. We don’t want to be a part of another FCS championship beat down like we had against Clemson until we have the hourses to compete.   Right now we do not.

Instead, we should hope to finish up just outside of the final four and latch onto a Sugar Bowl game against the SEC runner-up. Finish the season and the recruiting wars with momentum that will send us into 2017 with a rush.

Here is my formula for success…

…..Continue to utilize an unstoppable offense and a young improving defense to beat back West Virginia on the road and OSU at home. Finish up a ten-win season and take this momentum and injured players returning to the field to perform well in the Sugar Bowl.

……Obviously, any SEC team will be tough, but I see a drop off after Alabama. Texas A&M, the most likely opponent will not have a Johnny Manziel or even a Trevor Knight this year, so I expect the Sooners can hang with those guys.

…..Players come to Oklahoma to win championships so, maybe, just maybe, Mixon and Perine will return (a guy can dream, can’t he) next year.  Use this momentum to convince other Sooner players to do the same.

…..Top off the current top five recruiting class with a couple of difference-making 5 star prospects.

  1. The 2016 Final Four…

….Alabama…

….Ohio State after beating Michigan at home…

….Clemson with home win over South Carolina…

….Louisville…

  1. The 2017 Final Four…

….Alabama

….OU

….Michigan with win over Ohio State

….Louisville
